Treasures are collectible items in Dragon's Lair II: Time Warp. During Dirk's quest to rescue Daphne, he has the option to grab an item covered in gold. These items are, in order of appearance: an arrow, a bow, Singe's key, an egg, an Ace of Spades card, two apples, a hammer, a butterfly, a dagger and an hourglass.

Collecting the treasures are mandatory in order to advance to the last level and complete it, otherwise the player will be looped back to the beginning of the game for all the remaining treasures to be collected. However, the original conception of the game would have made the treasures an optional requirement that would trigger an alternative animated sequence in the final stage whereby the combined magic of all collected treasures are able to prevent the Death Ring from transforming Daphne into The Banshee after Mordroc gives it to her.[1]

Trivia[]

  • The Ace of Spades card is the only treasure that is not golden.
  • The Butterfly is the only animate object that is collectible.
  • Singe’s Key is presumably the same one worn around his neck in the original game which opened the Bubble cage holding Daphne captive.
  • The 1990 home computer versions omit the Treasure collecting mechanic entirely.
  • In Dragon's Lair Trilogy, collecting an item supersedes the original direction Dirk is given, as originally intended by the animation direction but subverted in the original arcade release.
  • Dragon's Lair 3D: Return to the Lair features a total of 100 Pieces of Treasure to collect consisting of four types: Bags of Gold, Goblets, Diamonds, and Crowns. Unlike the Treasure system of Time Warp, collection of all pieces of treasure is not necessary for completion of the game nor does it influence the game's ending. Players are rewarded for a complete collection with unlockable game modes for future playthroughs.
